Kansas City Escorts: No ‘mere’ to violations

December 2nd, 2011

A Nov. 25 editorial, “An embarrassing residency case, ” said, “This case brings further shame on the Municipal Court, where (Judge Elena) Franco and other judges are paid almost $145,000 a year – more than Missouri Supreme Court judges – to handle cases involving mere city ordinances.”
The problem is the quote, “to handle cases involving mere city ordinances.” Most people’s contact with the legal system is in the Municipal Court as a defendant, victim or witness. It is not unusual for Kansas City’s Municipal Court dockets to number 800 to 1,200 a day.
More importantly, every day the judges hear cases involving domestic violence, assaults, stealing, drugs, prostitution, property damage, driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while suspended, accident cases and leaving the scene of injury accidents.

Kansas City Escorts: A former protester claims Occupy KC is preoccupied with sex and drugs, but an …

November 26th, 2011

Shelton added that he hopes Mayor Sly James shuts down the camp.
The problem with Shelton’s claims is that they aren’t backed by anyone else.
The Kansas City police, who make daily stops at the camp, haven’t made one arrest for drugs or prostitution at Occupy Kansas City.
“I must have been going 2 wrong rallies,” one protester wryly responded to the allegation on Twitter. “I haven’t been offered 1 prostitute or joint.”
That mirrors my experience. I spent a day at the camp for last week’s cover story and didn’t see anyone using or hooking.
Tyler Crane, an occupier who has mostly lived at the camp since it started on September 30, disputes Shelton’s claims.
“There’s no pimps here,” Crane says. “There’s no hos here. To me, that’s just laughable.

Kansas City Adult Entertainment: Bishops say government eroding religious liberty

November 14th, 2011

Bishops hope to persuade federal lawmakers to retain the Defense of Marriage Act, which passed in 1996, and launched a new website called Marriageuniqueforareason.org. Obama has said his administration would no longer defend the law, calling it “counter to the Constitution.” Bishops said it was wrong to describe their religious convictions as discrimination.
“The church has nothing against compromise, but we can’t compromise principle,” Dolan said.
The bishops are confronting the Health and Human Services Department on another front. The government agency recently decided not to renew a contract held since 2006 by the bishops’ refugee services office to help victims of human trafficking.
The American Civil Liberties Union is suing to stop the agency from making grants to groups who “impose religiously based restrictions on reproductive health services” for human trafficking victims. The women are often raped and forced into prostitution by their captors.

Kansas City Escorts: Military ‘Virginity Test’ Investigation a Sham – Impunity Highlights Lack of …

November 10th, 2011

Hosseini told Human Rights Watch:
Impunity Highlights Lack of Independence of Justice SystemWhen they first took us to the military prison the officer told the guards that we’d been arrested for prostitution. But when they brought us before the prosecutor later that day there were no charges related to prostitution. On Thursday morning the officers came in and said that they would check to see if we were virgins. They took me to a bed in the passageway and made me take off my trousers. The doctor used his fingers to check me. He was wearing a white jacket over his uniforms. There were around three or four soldiers behind him. When I asked them if a woman could examine me they said, “This is a doctor with a certificate.”

Kansas City Strip Clubs: Sex-Trafficking Victim Describes Break For Freedom

October 29th, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman is telling her story of being part of a child sex-trafficking ring and how she finally escaped that lifestyle.
Caroline Germann said she had not started kindergarten when she was molested by a neighbor.
“Growing up, I always thought that was the type of relationship I was supposed to have with a man,” Germann told KMBC’s Diane Cho.
Germann said she was in and out of dozens of foster homes. As a runaway, she said she started having survival sex at the age of 13.
“It’s just having sex to meet your basic needs — food, shelter, clothes,” Germann said.
By age 21, Germann said she started working at a strip club. It was there that she said she was introduced to crack cocaine, and it did not take long for her to meet her pimp.

A Kansas City woman pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court to her role in a sex-trafficking incident that also involved a Columbia man.
