Kansas City Adult Entertainment: Detention officer faces prostitution allegations

Authorities on Wednesday accused a detention officer for the Kansas City Police Department of running a prostitution ring out of his Independence home.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Jacques A. Baker, 23, with felony promoting prostitution.

They charged a woman who lived with him, Samantha Thongkham, 28, with the same felony.

Both were booked into the Independence jail after their arrests Tuesday at their home in the 3100 block of Bryn Mawr Road.

Baker worked for two years in the Kansas City jail at police headquarters at 1125 Locust St., police said. He was suspended without pay Wednesday.

None of the crimes of which he is accused occurred on police property, Kansas City police said.

Baker is supposed to live in Kansas City as required by the department’s residency rules, but he apparently was violating the policy, police said.
